A cancer diagnosis can suddenly make so much feel outside of your control. For many patients, retaining their hair during chemotherapy can help preserve a sense of identity, privacy, confidence, and normalcy.
Unfortunately, scalp cooling remains an out of pocket expense for most patients.
How Fund the Next Patient Network Works
Step 1: Join the Network
Join our Fund the Next Patient Network by subscribing to our Network email listserv linked at the top of the page. It's free and there is never an obligation to donate to any fundraising campaign.
Step 2: Meet a patient
When we feature a newly approved patient, you'll be the first to hear their story, and in their own words, what hair retention means to them.
Step 3: Make an impact
Donate any amount or simply share the patient's story. Every contribution strengthens our patient subsidization fund and helps us continue supporting whoever comes next.
Step 4: Stay tuned
We will reach out with meaningful updates on the current campaign along with future campaigns for new patients (we promise these emails will not clog your inbox!)

How does it work?
-Fund the Next Patient is Carefree Capping’s patient-centered fundraising program, implemented in 2026. Rather than donating to a general fund without knowing the impact, supporters have the opportunity to meet real Hodgkin lymphoma patients whose stories represent the lives your generosity helps change -Each FNP campaign introduces you to someone beginning their treatment journey, shares why cold cap therapy matters to them, and allows you to see the real impact of your generosity in making cold cap therapy more accessible -Donations made through this program help sustain our patient subsidization funds so we’re prepared to support all eligible applicants
-We are a small, entirely volunteer run nonprofit committed to ensuring financial barriers do not prevent Hodgkin lymphoma patients from accessing cold cap therapy -As we expand and more patients seek assistance, we need a sustainable way to replenish our patient subsidization funds and continue serving future applicants. FNP allows supporters to see the real impact of their generosity while helping ensure Carefree Capping can continue to say ‘yes’ to patients as our organization grows
1. A patient applies for financial assistance through Carefree Capping 2. Carefree Capping reviews the application and determines eligibility 3. Approved patients receive assistance through our subsidization program 4. We may launch a fundraising campaign featuring the patient’s story (level of details is selected by the patient) 5. Supporters who are in the Network are the first to be alerted, via email. We may also feature the patient’s story on our social media and/or newsletter 6. Donations made through these campaigns help replenish our subsidization fund
Do patients have to wait until a campaign is fully funded?
Nope! Approved patients receive assistance through Carefree Capping’s subsidization program in time for their treatment start date.
How do I get involved?
-Join the Fund the Next Patient Network to receive notifications whenever a new patient story is shared -Network members receive email updates introducing each featured patient, sharing their story, and providing an opportunity to donate to support Carefree Capping’s work -Joining the network is free and there is never any obligation to donate. Whether you choose to give once, give regularly, or simply help spread the word, you are an invaluable part of helping us grow
Will I know who I'm helping?
-While donations will be entered into our general subsidization fund, each campaign introduces a real patient who has been approved for subsidization. Depending on the patient’s preferences, their campaign may include their preferred display name, state or province, a brief overview of their treatment journey, a personal reflection of what cold capping means to them, age, and a photo -While some basic information is required to approve for sharing when applying, patients have a choice as to how anonymous they would like to keep their story
Why does Carefree Capping share stories?
-Every patient has a unique story, and every story reminds us why the work we do matters -With each patient’s permission, we share stories to raise awareness about cold cap therapy, educate others about the challenges faced by HL patients, celebrate the impact of our community, and inspire continued support for future patients
Does my donation go directly to the featured patient?
-Yes and no. 100% of donations made through Fund the Next Patient directly supports our patient subsidization program and ensures we can continue funding eligible patients as our organization grows -Each featured campaign represents the real impact of your generosity, but the donation ultimately strengthens the fund that allows us to support current and future HL patients
Why focus on hair retention?
-Hair loss is one of the most visible side effects of chemotherapy, and is a reason some patients are hesitant to start chemotherapy. For many patients (our founder, and volunteers included), preserving their hair helps maintain a sense of identity, normalcy, privacy, and confidence during an incredibly hard experience -While cold cap therapy is a personal choice and not the right option for everyone, we believe that financial barriers and lack of access should never prevent someone from having the opportunity to consider it
